Foolishly, With Love
How foolish I was,
I fell in love with life knowing that it would end,
I fell in love with the night knowing that it would dawn,
I fell in love with the cold knowing that I would not always feel it,
And
I fell in love with you knowing that it would never be mine,
Yet I loved — wildly, endlessly,
As if endings could be bargained with,
But perhaps,
It is not so foolish to love what slips away.
It’s a moment, the moment where I live, breathe and feel
The life,
The night,
The cold,
You
It was a burning, a trembling, a whisper —
And in that,
Perhaps I was wise after all.
How foolish,
How beautiful,
How human?
I fell in love with life knowing that it would end,
I fell in love with the night knowing that it would dawn,
I fell in love with the cold knowing that I would not always feel it,
And
I fell in love with you knowing that it would never be mine,
Yet I loved — wildly, endlessly,
As if endings could be bargained with,
But perhaps,
It is not so foolish to love what slips away.
It’s a moment, the moment where I live, breathe and feel
The life,
The night,
The cold,
You
It was a burning, a trembling, a whisper —
And in that,
Perhaps I was wise after all.
How foolish,
How beautiful,
How human?
